The CMC Wiki Project
This is the entry page for the Computer Mediated Communcations Wiki Project where you, the student, will be responsible for demonstrating your knowledge of the reading material by defining and expanding upon weekly readings by finding tangent and related material online.
Getting Started
- Begin by reading the help section on how to edit Wiki pages (and by completing the Wiki Lab sheet). This can be found here.
- Try out your skills by editing your personal page. You can get to your personal page by clicking on your user name at the top of the screen. Note that you must first create a user account for this to happen!
- Once you get the hang of things, enter the wiki Gateway topics, assigned by student name and get to work. You can access these by topic by subject below.
- Before going further you might try spending some time looking closely at how a wiki site is organized and how its content is presented. Wikipedia is a good example of a vibrant community.
Responsibilities
Since this project is intended to be a semester-long endeavor, you are expected to maintain a regular presence on WikiCom. Simply typing in a short definition is not sufficient and I encourage you to have fun with the project. For your topic please post 5-6 related items found online with accessible links to their locations. Accompany each link with a paragraph of how this directly or indirectly relates to the readings. You are also responsible for visiting the links posted by fellow students - this is also considered required reading for that week. Your postings must be available no later than 2 days (48 hours) prior to the class for which the topic is assigned! This is to ensure we all have enough time to digest the material.
Good Luck!
